A pass on the main Karkonosze ridge

Przełęcz Karkonoska is a broad saddle on the main ridge of the Karkonosze Mountains, between Mały Szyszak and Śląskie Kamienie, in the area of Przesieka. The Polish-Czech border runs across it, and the saddle has for centuries served as a natural crossing from the Jelenia Góra Valley to the Czech side of the range.

Panorama and landscape

From the pass the view opens onto the neighbouring domes of the ridge and the valleys dropping towards Podgórzyn and Przesieka. The surroundings are subalpine meadows, dwarf pine and granite boulder fields typical of the highest parts of the Karkonosze. The area belongs to Karkonosze National Park, so walking is allowed only on marked trails.

Trails

The red Main Sudetes Trail crosses the pass, running from Szklarska Poręba over Szrenica and Czeskie Kamienie towards the pass below Śnieżka. Also meeting here are the Ścieżka nad Reglami route, the blue descent to Podgórzyn, the green trail to Vosecká bouda and the yellow one towards Špindlerův Mlýn.
