Markowa, Wieś Zawoja
Schronisko PTTK Markowe Szczawiny lies in the Beskid Żywiecki, in the northern part of the Babia Góra massif, on a high clearing above Zawoja. It is the main base for hikers climbing Diablak, the highest top of Babia Góra and one of the Crown of Polish Mountains peaks.
The original wooden hut has been replaced by a modern building whose form recalls the older architecture and fits well into the clearing. Hikers find meals, a resting place and beds here, and next door stands the PTTK Museum of Mountain Tourism with a multimedia story of the region and of climbing Babia Góra.
Several routes lead to the hut: the red Main Beskid Trail over Brona Pass to Babia Góra and on towards Lipnicka Pass, the green one from Jałowiecka Pass over Mała Babia Góra, and the yellow trail that climbs the famous Perć Akademików.
