A refuge at the gateway to the Pieniny

Orlica is a PTTK mountain hut in Szczawnica, at the foot of the Pieniny range and right by the Pieniny Road. It serves as a natural starting point and finish for hikes across the range, and its location in a spa town combines mountain character with easy access. Szczawnica itself is known for its mineral waters and for rafting through the Dunajec gorge.

What it offers

Visitors can use the dining room with a snack bar, the luggage and equipment store, and a viewing terrace looking out onto Sokolica and Czertezik. There is a playground for younger guests. The hut also provides overnight accommodation, and the neighbouring building houses the PTTK Centre of Mountain Tourism Culture in the Pieniny.

Trails nearby

The shortest approach is the red trail from the raftsmen's wharf on the Pieniny Road — barely ten minutes on foot. A longer option is the red trail from Szczawnica to Czerwony Klasztor, close to three hours of walking along the bank of the Dunajec.
