Wieś Karpniki
Sokolik, also called Sokolik Wielki, rises to 628 m above sea level in the Sokole Mountains, part of the Rudawy Janowickie range in the Western Sudetes. The summit is formed by a group of granite crags, with the trail squeezing between them and a metal viewing platform standing on the highest one.
From the platform you can see the Bóbr valley, the Jelenia Góra basin, the Kaczawskie Mountains and the ridge of the Karkonosze. The crags of Sokolik are one of the most important climbing areas in the Sudetes — Polish Himalayan mountaineers trained here, among them Wanda Rutkiewicz, and rock climbing courses are still run today.
The shortest approach starts at the Szwajcarka hut and takes twenty to forty minutes; the path is stony and full of roots, and can be slippery after rain. A more rewarding route leads from Przełęcz Karpnicka past Husyckie Skały and Przełączka — about 2.2 km and roughly fifty minutes of walking.
