Młyn Ruda, Wieś Ruda
The Wełna is a right-bank tributary of the Warta, about 120 kilometres long, flowing through the Gniezno and Chodzież Lake Districts and the Września Plain. The popular kayaking section begins at the mill in the village of Ruda in the Oborniki district — one of the most frequently chosen starting points on this river.
The stretch from Ruda to Wągrowiec is about twelve kilometres long and takes roughly three hours. Here the Wełna runs in a narrow, winding bed among forests and meadows, in places with a distinct current, which is why it is sometimes called a river with a mountain character. Overhanging branches and short portages appear along the way.
The trip suits beginners and families, although it demands attention when avoiding obstacles. Kayaks are rented on site and the operator arranges transport. At Młyn Ruda there are facilities for resting after the paddle, with local bread and space for group gatherings.
