A loop around a post-glacial lake

The trail starts and ends in Smolniki, in the heart of the Suwałki Landscape Park, forming a closed loop of roughly seven kilometres. It is waymarked in yellow and lined with twelve stops, each with an information board describing the post-glacial landforms, the vegetation and the history of the area.

What you will see along the way

The viewpoints are the main draw. The first, known as U Pana Tadeusza, opens a panorama over rolling moraine hills; the second looks down on the narrow, deeply incised Lake Jaczno. The route also passes through the village by the parish church and the cemetery with its historic wayside chapel, skirts the old mill in Jaczno and offers views of Lakes Kamenduł and Kojle.

Who it suits

The walk takes about two hours and demands no particular fitness, although the climbs onto the hills can be steep and the surface slippery after rain. It works well with children and dogs, but it is not suitable for prams.
