Kayaking Trips on the Biebrza River

A river through the middle of the marshes

The Biebrza runs for about 165 kilometres, some 130 of which are navigable by kayak. Most of its course crosses the Biebrza National Park, which protects vast peat bogs and marshy floodplains. The current is slow and gentle, with no rapids or drops, so no previous experience is needed.

Choosing a route

The river is divided into sections to match the time you have: single-day stretches such as the twelve kilometres from Wroceń to Goniądz, weekend stages around the Osowiec Fortress, Biały Grąd and Brzostowo, or a week-long expedition starting in Lipsk. You can organise the trip yourself or use operators that supply equipment and transport.

What you will see from the kayak

From water level you notice what stays hidden from the bank: elk among the reeds, wading birds, wetlands stretching to the horizon. Spring and early summer offer the best conditions for wildlife watching. Bring sun protection and insect repellent.
