A boardwalk over the Narew wetlands

The Kładka Wśród Bagien nature trail is the best known route in the Narew National Park, often called the Polish Amazon because of its network of branching river channels. It begins in Kurowo, at the manor house that holds the park headquarters, almost in the middle of the protected area. The trail is about a kilometre long, of which nearly 600 metres runs along a wooden boardwalk above the marshy ground.

What you will see

More than a dozen boards along the route explain how aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems interlock here. The boardwalk includes two viewing platforms with a clear outlook over the wetland mosaic: the river channel, reed beds, sedge marshes, wet meadows, willow thickets and alder carr. It is one of the better places to watch water and marsh birds, especially in spring.

Who it suits

Walking the trail takes about half an hour and is easy, since the entire marshy section is covered by planks. There is usually less traffic here than on the popular routes of Podlasie, so the trail works well for anyone who wants to watch nature in silence. Bring binoculars and mosquito repellent.
