Wieś Białowieża
Żebra Żubra is a nature trail in the Białowieża Forest, laid out just beyond the village of Białowieża, next to the European Bison Show Reserve. It was created in the 1970s as the first forest trail of its kind in the country and remains one of the region's most visited attractions. It is about 4 kilometres long and easy, with no climbs or difficult sections.
The name comes from the planks of the boardwalk, originally laid at intervals that made them resemble the ribs of a bison. Today the route combines hardened gravel and stone sections with wooden walkways fitted with rope handrails, passable with a pushchair. Cycling is prohibited, so the trail stays quiet.
The path leads through wet parts of the forest with alder and alder-ash stands, typical of the small river valleys of Podlasie. Look out for the deadwood left in the forest, traces of animals and the abundance of birds. The entrance lies on the continuation of Zastawa street, and the route ends at the European Bison Show Reserve.
