Dąb Dominik Nature Trail

Jamniki, Wieś Łomnica

  • Hiking Trails

A trail in the Polesie National Park

The route crosses the wettest part of Polesie, east of Urszulin. Two variants are available: a shorter one of about 2.5 kilometres and a longer one of roughly 3.5 kilometres. Both start in Kolonia Łomnica and lead along forest tracks and wooden boardwalks laid over the waterlogged ground.

What you will see

The highlight is Lake Moszne, a water body in the process of overgrowing, on whose surface a floating mat of interwoven plants creeps in from the shore. Around it stretch bog woodland and old peat diggings. The trail takes its name from a huge pedunculate oak with a girth of some 380 centimetres, named in honour of Professor Dominik Fijałkowski.

Who it suits

The walk takes about an hour and requires no fitness, as the boardwalks even out the terrain. It works well for families and wildlife watchers; with a little patience you may spot herons, elk and a tawny owl. Do not step off the marked route.
