The Historic Silver Mine lies on the edge of Tarnowskie Góry, on Szczęść Boże Street, along the road towards Gliwice. It is the only place in Poland where visitors can tour the workings of a former silver-ore mine. The site is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List and belongs to the Industrial Monuments Route of the Silesian Voivodeship.
The underground route is about 1,740 metres long and leads through spacious chambers, haulage galleries and working faces where ore was once extracted. Its most spectacular stretch is covered by boat — nearly 270 metres along a flooded gallery. The temperature underground stays low and constant all year, so a warm jacket is useful even in summer.
The tour is complemented by exhibitions on the history of ore mining and by multimedia rooms. Next to the entrance there is an open-air museum of steam machines, a food outlet and a barbecue area, and part of the facilities is adapted to families with children. Parking is located directly at the site.
