The Riese Complex – Włodarz, also known as Wolfsberg or Wilcza Góra, is an extensive system of adits cut into the western slope of Włodarz mountain in the Owl Mountains, near the village of Jugowice in Lower Silesia. The site is part of the Riese complex, a German wartime undertaking that was never completed.
Włodarz is one of the largest and most visited structures of its kind in the Owl Mountains. The tour leads through wide galleries, chambers and flooded sections of the underground, supplemented by multimedia projections and the guide's account of the tunnelling techniques and the scale of the whole scheme. The purpose of the complex remains a subject of dispute and legend to this day.
Construction was carried out by prisoners from a nearby camp, which is an inseparable and dark part of the site's history. After the war, building materials and stone from the spoil heaps were carted away for the reconstruction of cities, and the surface buildings were dismantled. That is why mainly the underground survived, being harder for looters to reach. Inside it is cool and damp, so warm clothing and sturdy shoes are essential.
