Podziemia Będzińskie is a tourist route through the corridors of a former air-raid shelter cut into the rock beneath Castle Hill in Będzin. The entrance is on Kołłątaja Avenue, a few minutes' walk from the castle and from the Zagłębie Museum, which looks after the site.
The shelter was created during the Second World War for the town's German civilian population, and prisoners of a camp worked on digging it. The work was never finished — in 1945 the tunnels were taken over by the Red Army. Many threads of this story remain unclear.
The route covers about 400 metres of adits and corridors. Traces left by the builders have survived in the tunnels, among them carved inscriptions and small objects. Visits must be arranged in advance, and the site is sometimes closed for renovation work.
