Wieś Chotel Czerwony
The Gypsum Crystal Cave lies at the foot of a gypsum hill in Chotel Czerwony in the Ponidzie region, within the Nida Landscape Park. Local people used to call it the parish priest's kitchen. The passage measures about 25 metres.
Inside, hollowed gypsum crystals are exposed, but the entrance is barred because the fragile formation needs protection. The site is therefore viewed from outside. The church of Saint Bartholomew stands on the same hill and is clearly visible from the nearby roads.
A few hundred metres away lies the Przęślin reserve with its famous swallowtail crystals, intergrown gypsum crystals reaching up to two metres. These are the largest occurrences of their kind in the world, especially striking in full sunlight.
