The Gold Mine in Złotoryja, also known as the Aurelia mine, lies in the north-eastern part of the town in Lower Silesia. The adit was driven in the 17th century in search of gold, but the deposits proved unprofitable and extraction was soon abandoned.
The accessible section is about a hundred metres long and runs among diabase rocks and iron ore incrustations. Side galleries and a ventilation shaft branch off the main drift. The Karol shaft, uncovered during reconstruction works, still awaits development.
The temperature in the adit stays around eight degrees, noticeable above all on hot days, so a sweater is worth taking. Bats live in the side shaft and are easily disturbed, so calm and quiet are required. Visits take place with a guide.
