Dule, Wieś Łagów
Zbójecka Cave lies in Łagów, in the Dule gorge within the Świętokrzyskie Mountains, north-east of Kielce. It is one of the longer karst caves in the region, dissolved in Devonian limestone and protected as a natural monument. A path along the floor of the gorge leads to its entrance.
The interior has kept a rich array of speleothems: stalactites, stalagmites, columns, flowstone, draperies and crusts of moonmilk. The cave is also a habitat for small subterranean fauna — stygobites, stygophiles and stygoxenes — and a wintering site for bats.
Researchers have known the cave since the mid-19th century, and archaeological work has revealed traces of early settlement, including pottery and animal bones. The cave has no tourist infrastructure and is entered at your own risk. A torch and closed, non-slip footwear are essential.
