ul. Repecka, Tarnowskie Góry
The Black Trout Adit in Tarnowskie Góry is a 600-metre section of a former drainage adit linking the Ewa and Sylwester shafts. It was created in 1834 for the Fryderyk lead and silver mine and replaced the horse gins previously used to remove water from the workings. It was opened to visitors as early as 1957.
The route is covered by boat, which makes it a special attraction, especially for children. Trout swim alongside the visitors and in the dim light appear black — hence the name of the adit. Bats have settled in the dark recesses, and the walls still show hewn rock faces and traces of blasting holes.
In 2017 the adit became part of the Tarnowskie Góry lead, silver and zinc mine complex inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The site also lies on the Industrial Monuments Route. It is cool underground all year round, so warmer clothing is worth taking.
