Bystrzyckie Lake stretches out beside Zagórze Śląskie, in a valley enclosed by the hills of the Owl Mountains and the Wałbrzych Foothills. It is a dam reservoir of about 50 hectares and more than 3 kilometres long, created in 1914 to protect the area against flooding. It is considered one of the most picturesque lakes in the Sudetes.
There are bathing areas along the shores as well as kayak and pedal boat rentals, and you can also take a boat cruise or go sailing. Walking and cycling trails, nature paths and viewing platforms have been laid out around the reservoir, while the nearby rocks are used as climbing walls.
Above the lake rises Grodno Castle, one of the better preserved strongholds of Lower Silesia. Nearby are also the underground workings of the Riese complex, driven during the Second World War. Accommodation and dining facilities in Zagórze Śląskie make a longer stay easy.
