Nad Zalewem, Wieś Niedzica-Zamek
Lake Czorsztyńskie is an artificial body of water on the Dunajec river, created in 1997 between Niedzica and Czorsztyn. It measures roughly 9 km in length and 1.3 km in width, and its shores cut into the rolling landscape of the Pieniny Mountains. In good weather the surrounding hills open up a panorama of the Tatras, which makes this one of the most photographed spots in Lesser Poland.
The reservoir was built primarily to protect the Dunajec valley from flooding, but it quickly became the recreational hub of the region. Excursion boats and gondolas cruise the lake, equipment rentals operate on shore, and sailors, kayakers and anglers share the water. Beaches, marinas and food outlets are spread along the banks.
Two strongholds guard the shores: the well-preserved Dunajec Castle in Niedzica and the ruins of Czorsztyn Castle on the opposite side. Both are open to visitors, and in season a boat crossing links them. A visit combines easily with a Dunajec rafting trip or a ride up Wdżar.
