Nakło-Chechło Lake was created in a former sand pit, turned in 1973 into a closed reservoir with no outflow. It lies on the border of Nakło Śląskie and Świerklaniec in the Tarnowskie Góry district, surrounded by forest, and the drive from the Katowice conurbation takes barely a quarter of an hour. The water here is remarkably clean for an industrial region.
Sandy beaches line the shores, with rentals of kayaks, boats and pedal boats. Several holiday centres, campsites and tent fields operate around the reservoir, and in summer lifeguards watch over the bathing area. Walking paths and cycling routes run along the bank.
A few kilometres away runs the historic narrow-gauge railway from Tarnowskie Góry, and the town itself is known for its UNESCO-listed silver mine and the Black Trout Adit. Świerklaniec is also worth a stop, with its extensive landscape park and the Cavalier Palace.
