A lake in the centre of Ostróda

Lake Drwęckie stretches along the edge of Ostróda, at the western end of the Iława Lake District. It covers about 880 hectares and takes the shape of two troughs, roughly 12 and 5 kilometres long. The larger one holds the densely wooded island of Ostrów. The Drwęca river flows through the lake, and a network of canals links it with neighbouring waters of the region.

Recreation on the water

The shore holds a municipal beach, a pier and a long promenade that is one of the town's main meeting places. Visitors have access to a canoe course, a water-ski lift and marinas with equipment rentals. In season, passenger boats set off from Ostróda, including cruises towards the Elbląg Canal.

The surroundings

Two marked trails, blue and green, lead from Ostróda to Pilawki and work well for a walk, a run or a bike ride. With the castle in Ostróda and the inclined planes of the Elbląg Canal close by, Lake Drwęckie makes an easy base for a stay of several days.
