Two ponds in the Zielona district

The Zalew Zielona reservoir lies in Kalety, in the Zielona district, on the edge of the Upper Silesian forests. It consists of two adjoining basins. The smaller one formed in a pit left by iron ore mining dating back to the 16th century and holds a small island with an old windmill in the middle. The larger one was created by damming the waters of the Mała Panew river.

Leisure and sport

The site is well developed for tourism: holiday centres, camping cabins, a tent field, guesthouses and food outlets operate around the reservoir. Beaches have been marked out along the water, and water equipment can be hired. The spread of recreational facilities means the reservoir often serves as a base for a longer stay rather than just a stop along the way.

Nature and the educational trail

Outside the summer season the reservoir changes character — a good moment for birdwatching and for tracking signs of beavers. An educational trail about 9 kilometres long stays open all year and can be covered on foot, by bike, with nordic walking poles or, in winter, on cross-country skis.
