A ribbon lake at the edge of Gdańsk

Jezioro Osowskie lies on the edge of the Kashubian Lake District. Its southern shore falls within the city limits of Gdańsk, while the northern one belongs to the Żukowo commune in Kartuzy county and opens the belt of the Chwaszczyno Hills. Like most Kashubian lakes it is of ribbon origin — long and narrow, with a stony shallow known as the Devil's Isthmus.

Good to know

The lake serves as a recreational spot for the residents of Gdańsk and Gdynia, although some of the lakeside land remains in private hands. The shores are heavily peaty and boggy, so walking all the way around the lake is not possible — the water can be reached only at selected points.

Getting there and fishing

It can be reached from Gdańsk and Gdynia by suburban bus or by car along regional road 218. The lake is visited mainly by anglers, who catch perch, zander, tench, pike, crucian carp and eel.
