A former Baltic bay

Jezioro Wicko lies in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship, about three kilometres from the seaside resort of Jarosławiec. The lake was once a bay of the Baltic Sea, gradually cut off from open water by a wooded sand spit. Today the waters of the lake and the sea no longer mix, and a narrow belt of dunes and forest forms a natural border between them.

Military range and nature protection

The northern shore remains closed to visitors — it is occupied by the central air force training range. The area belongs to the “Coastal Belt West of Ustka” Protected Landscape Area, which limits development and benefits waterfowl. It is worth checking local notices before planning a longer walk along the shoreline.

Rest by the water

The accessible part of the lake is served by four mooring piers equipped with toilets, running water and electricity. Swimmers use the bathing area in Wicko Morskie with its sanitary facilities. Accommodation is available in Jarosławiec and the neighbouring resorts.
