Wieś Biszcza
The Biszcza - Żary reservoir is an artificial body of water covering about 44 hectares, opened in 2008 and located in Biszcza in the Biłgoraj district. It was built mainly to protect the area from flooding, but from the outset it was also developed for recreation and today it is the biggest attraction in the municipality.
The area lies where Roztocze meets the Solska Forest — a landscape of gentle hills, pine woods and sandy tracks that attracts cyclists as well as people looking for peace and quiet.
A sandy beach and a bathing area have been laid out by the reservoir, along with jetties, a water equipment rental and picnic spots. Food outlets operate in summer, and those who want to stay longer can use the campsite or lodgings nearby. The terrain is mostly flat and easily accessible, which makes it a good place to relax with children.
The eastern cycling route Green Velo, one of the most popular cycle trails in Poland, runs right next to the reservoir, as does the green trail named after Józef Złotkiewicz. As a result the lake is a natural stop on longer cycling trips across Roztocze and the Lublin region.
The bathing season usually lasts from June to the end of August and most facilities operate then; outside that period the reservoir remains open for walks and angling. Biszcza is a convenient base for trips to Zwierzyniec, Susiec and the Roztocze National Park.
