The Kashubian Sea

Jezioro Wdzydzkie, in Kashubian Wdzydzczé Jezoro, is often called the Kashubian Sea, the Great Water or Szerzawa. It lies in the Tuchola Forest, in Kościerzyna County in Pomerania, south-west of Kościerzyna. The lake and its surroundings are protected within the Wdzydze Landscape Park, which has preserved the pine and beech landscape of the shores.

On the water

The lake forms a system connected with the lakes Radolne, Gołuń, Jelenie and Słupinko, which gives it the shape of a branching water cross. That is one reason why canoeists and sailors come here, and the Wda river trail also runs through the area. Anglers are drawn by a rarity: Jezioro Wdzydzkie is home to lake trout, exceptional in Polish inland waters.

Shores and surroundings

The most visited village on the lake is Wdzydze Kiszewskie, with bathing areas, water equipment rentals, holiday centres and places to eat. A Kashubian open-air museum operates here as well, adding an ethnographic thread to a stay by the water.
