Kozielno, Paczków
Zalew w Paczkowie lies on the outskirts of the town, on the border between the Opole and Lower Silesian voivodeships. It was created at the beginning of the 21st century by damming the Nysa Kłodzka, whose waters flooded former ponds and small water bodies. It serves for water retention but is also used for recreation, and it is a walk of about fifteen minutes from the centre of Paczków.
Walking and running paths have been laid out around the reservoir, and there is a beach as well as spots overlooking the outlets of the linked basins that make up the whole hydro-engineering system. On the lake lies Bird Island, where rare species of water birds nest. The reservoir is popular with anglers, and in season carp competitions accompanied by fairs are held here.
It is worth combining the visit with a tour of Paczków, called the Polish Carcassonne because of its preserved ring of town walls. Less than 20 kilometres away lies Złoty Stok with its gold mine, and next to it stretches Lake Otmuchowskie with accommodation and bathing areas.
