Pilchowicki Zbiornik Wodny, also called Jezioro Pilchowickie, lies in the Lwówek district of Lower Silesia, north-east of Jelenia Góra. It was created by damming the Bóbr with a stone dam that protects the valleys below from flooding; a hydroelectric plant works beneath it. The water fills a narrow, forested valley with a strongly winding shoreline.
The dam itself is the most striking sight — a massive structure of dressed stone set into steep slopes. A monumental railway bridge from 1909 spans the reservoir; it was blown up in May 1945 and rebuilt a year later. A walking route runs along the bank with views over the water and the surrounding forest.
There are no developed beaches or supervised swimming areas, so bathing is not advised — the area is best explored from the shore and nearby trails. The neighbouring villages offer plenty of farm accommodation, and access roads are narrow and winding.
