A reservoir on the Ruda river

Zalew Rybnicki, also called the Rybnik Reservoir or Rybnik Lake, was created on the Ruda river in the north-western part of Rybnik. It was built for the local power plant, but for decades it has also served as the city's main recreation area.

Sailing and water sports

Water used to cool the power units rarely drops below the mid-teens, so the sailing season here runs roughly from April to October. Sailing clubs, holiday centres, a campsite, catering facilities and a riding centre operate around the reservoir.

Walks and views

A promenade runs along the shore with a view of yachts and windsurfing boards, while the power plant chimneys close the panorama on the other side. The Pniowiec bathing area lies nearby, and it is a short drive to Rudy with its post-Cistercian monastery complex and narrow-gauge railway.
