Dzierżno Duże Lake, also known as Rzeczyckie Lake, was formed when former sand pits in the Kłodnica valley were flooded. With an area of around 516 hectares it is one of the largest bodies of water in the western part of the Silesian Voivodeship, stretching across the lands of Gliwice, Pyskowice and the Rudziniec commune, next to the Gliwice Canal.
The shores remain wild: there is virtually no organised infrastructure, most of the shoreline is overgrown and beaches are few. The southern bank is the most accessible, with a rest and viewpoint area and several entries to the water. The bathing area is unsupervised, so swimming is at your own risk.
It appeals to those who value space and quiet and who bring their own gear — a kayak or a board — as there is no rental here. The wide surface and steady wind favour sailing, and sailing equipment can be hired on site. At the height of the season the southern beaches get busy.
