Wieś Nowe Guty
Śniardwy is the country's biggest body of water, set in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, in the Great Masurian Lakes district, within the Pisa river basin. The lake is of glacial origin and lies inside the Masurian Landscape Park, next to the Pisz Forest and areas protected for their birdlife. The Masurian canals link it with lakes such as Mikołajskie, Łuknajno, Tyrkło and Roś.
The lake is vast but relatively shallow, which in strongly heated water favours the so-called white squalls — sudden winds dangerous even to experienced sailors. The weather changes fast here, so check the forecast before setting out. Passenger boats of the White Fleet also cruise across the lake.
The shoreline runs for about 65 kilometres and passes villages such as Nowe Guty, Popielno, Głodowo, Niedźwiedzi Róg and Zdęgowo. The banks are often overgrown and hard to reach, yet many campsites and holiday centres operate around the lake.
