Wieś Złoty Potok
Amerykan is one of the ponds of Złoty Potok, a village in the Janów commune in the Częstochowa district, in the middle of the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland. Groves and the meadows of the Wiercica valley surround the water, and a short road leads to its bank from the centre of the village.
The pond was originally called the Pond of Bitter Tears and is linked with the poet Zygmunt Krasiński, who mourned his four-year-old daughter Elżbieta here. The later name commemorates an American senator thanks to whom trout roe brought from across the ocean reached Złoty Potok — the beginning of the trout farming the area is known for.
The pond makes a good starting point for exploring the area: nearby stand the Raczyński Palace, the Museum in the Krasiński Manor, a rope park and a trail leading through the Parkowe nature reserve towards the springs of the Wiercica. In summer a bathing area operates by the water, along with a campsite and a bicycle rental.
