A reservoir on the Pilica

Zalew Sulejowski is an artificial reservoir in the Łódź province, created by damming the Pilica river at Smardzewice. It ranks among the largest bodies of water in central Poland, and its shores lie within the Sulejów Landscape Park, part of the Pilica Valley Landscape Parks complex.

Beaches and the quiet zone

Swimming areas and beaches can be found in Smardzewice, Sulejów, Treść and Karolinów. A quiet zone applies across the whole reservoir, so jet skis and motorboats are out — what remains is sailing, kayaking and angling. Clean air, a stone-free bottom and steady winds have long drawn sailors from all over the country.

The surrounding area

Wooded shores, islands and shallow backwaters shelter waterfowl, a treat for nature watchers, while the many coves offer space for a quiet break. Campsites and sailing marinas operate along the water. Smardzewice itself has a European bison breeding centre, and Tomaszów Mazowiecki is only a short drive away.
