A lake within Częstochowa

Zalew Michalina is an artificial lake in Częstochowa, in a district next to Żarecka street. It formed by itself: water filled the clay pits so quickly that the excavation was never finished and machinery was left on the bottom. Hence a depth unusual for an urban body of water.

How to enjoy it

Access is from Żarecka street, which branches off Bugajska. Residents come here for a walk and a moment of quiet by the water — one of the few lakes in the city apart from the Warta valley. The banks are steep and the bottom drops away a few metres from the shore, so swimming is forbidden and children need constant supervision.

Surroundings

There is practically no tourist infrastructure and the site remains raw. Its location compensates: the centre of Częstochowa with Jasna Góra is close by, and to the north stretch the limestone hills of the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland with the castles of the Eagles' Nests Trail.
