A lake in the heart of Kartuzy

Jezioro Klasztorne lies within the boundaries of Kartuzy, in the Kashubian Lake District, and is split into two basins: Klasztorne Małe and Klasztorne Duże. Together with the neighbouring waters they form the group of Kartuzy lakes around which the town developed. The shores are reachable from the centre, and the walk from the market square takes a few minutes.

The Philosophers' Avenue

Along Małe Jezioro Klasztorne runs an educational trail called „Aleja Filozofów” (the Philosophers' Avenue), referring to the Carthusian monks who meditated while walking by the water. The route is short, flat and surfaced, with benches and information boards. Right by the shore stands the former Carthusian collegiate church with a roof shaped like a coffin lid.

Good to know

This is a place for a walk rather than a swim: the lake is urban and polluted, so bathing is out of the question. It works well as a quiet stop while sightseeing in Kartuzy and as a starting point deeper into Kashubia, towards Kashubian Switzerland and Wieżyca.
