Jezioro Domowe Duże, also called Długie, lies right in Szczytno, where the Masurian Plain meets the Mrągowo Lakeland. The town spreads between it and the smaller Jezioro Domowe Małe, and its shore adjoins the ruins of the Teutonic castle — one of the best-known sights of western Masuria.
By the castle walls there is a municipal beach with a beach volleyball court, a playground and a pier reaching out over the water. The water itself is not suitable for swimming, so the beach serves as an urban leisure spot rather than a bathing area. Water equipment rental is also available.
A walking and cycling loop of about 5 km runs along the shore through attractive natural surroundings. On Bartna Strona street it passes the Masurian Cottage, a traditional timber house. The route is easy, well signposted and a convenient way to get to know Szczytno from the waterside.
