A flooded pit near Pyskowice

Jezioro Dzierżno Małe is a post-mining reservoir in Upper Silesia, formed when a worked-out sand pit filled with water. It is fed by the Drama and Pniówka rivers. The lake lies next to Pyskowice, within easy reach of Gliwice, Zabrze and Ruda Śląska, and serves a flood-control function.

Recreation and water sports

For residents of the conurbation this is the nearest water for a day off. There is a water equipment rental, and the open surface suits sailing and windsurfing. Accommodation and food outlets can be found around the reservoir, and anglers come regularly. Weekends get busy, as public transport from the nearby towns is convenient.

Dzierżno Duże next door

A few kilometres away, on the right bank of the Gliwice Canal, lies the much larger lake Dzierżno Duże. The two are easily combined into a single trip. The surroundings are flat and crossed by service roads and paths, which makes walking and cycling along the shores easy.
