Four ponds in the Rudawy Janowickie

Kolorowe Jeziorka is a group of four small reservoirs in the Rudawy Janowickie range above the village of Wieściszowice. Yellow, purple, green and blue — each has a different shade of water resulting from the chemical composition of its bed. They formed in the flooded pits of a former pyrite mine, whose ore was processed into sulphuric acid.

The trail and the visit

The ponds are strung along the green trail that starts in Wieściszowice and continues to Wielka Kopa. Walking between all four takes under an hour, although the route climbs steeply in places. Swimming is forbidden — the water is acidic and lifeless. A blue-marked cycling route also serves the area.

What else is nearby

It is worth combining the visit with the educational trail in Miedzianka and its craft brewery, the ruins of Bolczów Castle and the Sokoliki rocks, popular with climbers. A car park with facilities operates by the lowest pond, and a barbecue spot can be rented at the purple one.

  • Car park by the lowest pond

  • Playground and volleyball court
  • Barbecue spot for rent
Cost: Free admission Visit duration: approx. 1 hour Seasonality: All year round, the trail can be slippery in winter
