Ponds in the heart of Roztocze

Stawy Echo lie on the edge of Zwierzyniec in Zamość County, within Roztocze National Park. The ponds were created in the valley of the Świerszcz stream; four of them survive today. The best known, with a beach and a bathing area, is a short walk from the centre of the town.

Bathing and views

In season the beach draws crowds; outside it the area is quiet and used mainly by local residents. A viewing platform overlooks the pond, reached by a boardwalk that protects the bank from erosion. From the far shore the Polish koniks grazed within the park can sometimes be spotted.

The surroundings

In Zwierzyniec itself the church on the water and the historic Karczma Młyn inn are worth seeing. A forest trail leads from here to Florianka with its Polish konik refuge. The park runs an active amphibian protection programme, so parts of the banks remain closed to visitors.
