ul. Jeziorna, Gniezno
Jezioro Jelonek, also called Lake Wenecja, lies inside the city and is the second largest body of water in Gniezno. It belongs to the Gniezno Lake District. To the west it borders Piastowski Park and the Museum of the Origins of the Polish State, while to the east it is closed off by Lech Hill with the cathedral.
Asphalt paths run around the lake and are used by walkers, runners and cyclists; the loop is short and surfaced along its whole length. Swimming is not allowed and the lake serves a recreational and scenic role. Anglers readily take up positions along the banks.
Jelonek is a convenient starting point for exploring the oldest part of Gniezno: the cathedral with its bronze Gniezno Doors and the museum on the lakeshore. The city lies on the Piast Route, and further lakes of the Gniezno Lake District spread out nearby.
