Staw Ajska lies in the north-western part of Świętochłowice, in the valley of the Lipinka stream, on post-industrial land left by the former zinc smelter in Chropaczów. The pond is framed by a landscape typical of Upper Silesia: reddish-brown slag heaps, overgrown wasteland and clumps of young woodland.
A well-trodden path runs around the water, in places crossing rough ground with fallen trees. It is a good spot for birdwatching — mallards, moorhens, great reed warblers and gulls can be seen here. From the rise above the pond there is a view over the water and the neighbouring heaps.
The site is raw and unmanaged: the path is not suitable for prams, and the heaps are often noisy with quad bikes and motorcycles. Anglers take up positions along the banks, while the flat ground nearby is used for picnics and barbecues. Pre-war military bunkers also survive in the area.
