ul. Stawy Podgórzyńskie, Cieplice, Wieś Podgórzyn
Stawy Podgórzyńskie is a group of fish ponds spread across the Jelenia Góra Valley in the Bóbr river basin, between Podgórzyn, Sobieszów, Cieplice and Marczyce. It is the largest water complex in the Sudetes and at the same time the highest situated fish ponds in Europe.
The shallow, reed-fringed ponds form a refuge for water and marsh birds and a stopover on the spring and autumn migration routes. Observers look out for numerous duck species here, as well as birds of prey circling above the surface. The ponds remain in private hands, so visitors should keep to the dykes and public roads.
The view from the dykes is closed by the Karkonosze mountains, which makes this a good starting point for further trips. Nearby lie Cieplice with its spa park, Chojnik Castle above Sobieszów, and trails heading towards the Karkonosze ridge and its mountain huts.
