The via ferrata in the disused Podkowiński sandstone quarry in Szydłowiec (Mazovian Voivodeship) is one of the newest iron paths in Poland. In press reports and local materials it is described as "the third such facility in all of Poland". The secured climbing route has been laid out along the rock walls of the former quarry, whose extraction of Szydłowiec sandstone dates back to the town's mining past.
The via ferrata is part of a broader revitalisation of the Podkowiński quarry, in which a park with a viewing terrace and a zip line (rope descent) was created. Participants complete the route using steel safety cables and climbing elements mounted in the rock wall, under the supervision of an instructor and after meeting the safety requirements.
The facility was ceremoniously opened on 15 August 2025. The first full season (from spring to autumn) is planned for 2026.
The via ferrata and zip line are open seasonally from 1 April to 31 October, depending on weather conditions. Opening hours change by month (see the hours field). The quarry's walking area is accessible year-round.
