ul. Brunatna, Konin
Czarna Woda Lake lies in Konin on Brunatna Street, between Lake Turkusowe and Lake Zatorze. It is a post-mining reservoir formed in an excavation left after brown coal extraction. The intense colour of the water and the steep sandy banks have earned the whole complex the nickname of the Polish Maldives, although it has little in common with water recreation.
The basin is bowl-shaped: the depth increases abruptly just a few metres from the shore, and the bottom is silty and treacherous. Swimming is forbidden and the ban must be respected without exception — there are no lifeguards and no marked bathing area. Walking along the shore and resting on the higher escarpments remain safe.
Lush vegetation has overgrown the banks and shelters fish — anglers catch pike, perch, bream, carp and catfish here. The surroundings are quiet despite the closeness of the city and favour birdwatching. Together with the neighbouring post-mining lakes the area forms an extensive walking ground within the limits of Konin.
