On the Great Masurian Lakes route

Bełdany is an elongated lake in the Mikołajki commune, in the heart of the Great Masurian Lakes region. To the north it connects with Lake Mikołajskie, and to the south — through Guzianka Mała and Guzianka Wielka and a chamber lock — with Lake Nidzkie. Its shores are covered by the forests of the Pisz Forest.

Sailing and canoe trips

The lake forms part of the main sailing route, called the “yacht motorway”, linking Mikołajki with Ruciane-Nida. The popular Krutynia canoe trail also ends here. A car and passenger ferry crosses between the shores, and marinas and holiday centres cluster around the village of Kamień.

Points of interest on the shores

Old timber-rafting landings, known as bindugi, survive on the headlands; a tent field has been set up by one of them, and a Polish konik horse breeding operates near another. On the shore lies Galindia too, a settlement styled after a Prussian stronghold, with dungeons, caves and lake cruises.
