A lake in Polesie National Park

Jezioro Moszne lies in the village of Jamniki, Urszulin commune, Włodawa County, within Polesie National Park. It is a shallow, gradually overgrowing body of water surrounded by peat bogs, reached by the Dąb Dominik nature trail. Its open water shrinks with every decade as bog vegetation takes over.

Boardwalks, floating mat and marshes

The route runs on wooden boardwalks through lowland oak-hornbeam forest and alder carr, bog woodland and both transitional and raised peat bogs, all the way to the lakeshore. The greatest curiosity is the floating mat - a carpet of vegetation made mainly of peat mosses that is slowly closing over the water. Stepping onto it is forbidden.

Good to know

The trail comes in two versions: a shorter one of about 2.5 km, adapted for visitors with disabilities and wheelchair users, and a longer one of about 3.5 km ending in the village of Jamniki. Along the way you may meet elk, beaver, crane, tawny owl and adder, so bring binoculars and keep quiet.
