A reservoir on the Skawa

Jezioro Mucharskie, also known as the Świnna Poręba reservoir, is an artificial lake on the river Skawa in Wadowice County, at the edge of the Little Beskids. The water filled a valley between wooded hills and created one of the larger reservoirs in Lesser Poland, clearly visible from the surrounding ridges.

What the reservoir is for

The dam's main task is to protect the Skawa valley against floods and to ease the effects of drought. The reservoir also enriches the landscape and the local ecosystem, and one of its declared aims was the development of tourism and recreation. Swimming in the lake is prohibited, even though signs do not say so everywhere.

What to do by the water

Roads and paths run along the shores, opening up panoramas of the water surface and the Beskid ridges. The area makes a convenient base for trips into the Little Beskids and towards Wadowice and Sucha Beskidzka, and the views are at their best early in the morning, when mist lingers over the lake.
