Mokry Stawek lies on the northern slopes of Babia Góra in the Żywiec Beskids, at about 1,025 m above sea level, within Babia Góra National Park. It is the largest natural body of water in the whole massif - a small pool surrounded on all sides by old forest.
It used to be considered a post-glacial lake; today it is classed as a landslide pond, formed by the movement of rock masses on the slope. The pond is a refuge for two rare amphibians: the Alpine newt and the Carpathian newt. The silence and the shade of the spruce forest make the place striking in every season.
A marked path leads to the pond, branching off the blue trail from the Krowiarki Pass to Markowe Szczawiny. The section is about 1.5 km long and takes roughly half an hour, so children and older walkers manage it easily. There is a car park at the Krowiarki Pass, where the walk begins.
