A dam lake in the Borowy Jar gorge

Modre Lake is a reservoir on the Bóbr river, set in the Borowy Jar gorge within the Bóbr Valley Landscape Park, near Siedlęcin outside Jelenia Góra. The river cuts into rocky slopes here, forming a narrow gorge in which the water takes on a dark, blue-green shade. Swimming in the lake is not allowed.

What to see

At the main dam works the three-turbine Bobrowice hydroelectric plant — a site of interest for fans of industrial tourism. On the southern shore stands the PTTK mountain hut „Perła Zachodu”, one of the recognisable spots of the Jelenia Góra Valley. From there a footbridge over the water leads towards the rock formations and the Wieżyca hill.

Getting there

The most convenient approach is from Jelenia Góra along the restored walking road that links the town with Krzywousty Hill and on to the lakeshore. The route is gentle and can be walked in under an hour, which makes it a good idea for a short stroll in the Bóbr valley.
