A ribbon lake in the Brodnica Landscape Park

Lake Mieliwo lies in the Zbiczno commune in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, in the central part of the Brodnica Lake District and within the Brodnica Landscape Park. Covering almost 81 hectares, it has the elongated shape typical of a ribbon lake and a highly developed shoreline full of bays and headlands. Forest reaches the water, in places with pines more than two hundred years old.

Nature and underwater meadows

The lake is home to rare plants, including holly-leaved naiad, while pondweeds and water milfoils form extensive underwater meadows. The Mieliwo forest nature reserve is protected right next to the shore. This is a place for nature watchers rather than sunbathers — swimming in the lake is prohibited.

Who it suits

Mieliwo is valued mainly by anglers and by walkers looking for quiet forest tracks. Trails of the Brodnica Lake District link it with neighbouring lakes, so it works well as part of a longer hike or bike ride.
